APTRA recruits more members

By Charlotte Turner |

The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) has recruited additional members, Lotte Duty Free, Moët Hennessy Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd and Paramount Farms, who all confirmed that they wished to join the association with immediate effect.

APTRA says that it is “forging ahead with its campaign and research activities while celebrating the recruitment of additional high profile companies as association members.”

The association believes that these three recent additions “add further weight to the authority of the association” which already counts more than 90 suppliers, retailers, landlords and associations from across the Asia Pacific region among its members.

In 2013, APTRA is partnering TFWA in the organisation of their first-ever Industry Conference on China entitled ‘China’s Century: The Fast Pace of Change in China Duty Free & Travel Retail’, which will be staged from 5th to 7th March 2013 in Beijing.

APTRA recruits new membersCODE OF CONDUCT ON ALCOHOL

Last month, TRBusiness.com reported that APTRA is taking its ‘Self-regulatory Code of Conduct for the Sale of Alcohol Products in Duty Free and Travel Retail’ to the next level.

The decision to do so followed a meeting between the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) and major liquor industry suppliers during October’s TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.

At this meeting, plans were presented and debated on how to conduct a training programme to ensure these principles are communicated all the way to the shop floor level staff. In addition and over the coming weeks, APTRA says it will be coordinating with suppliers and retailers in the Asia Pacific region on the roll-out of a comprehensive and extensive training programme.

ADVOCACY AND RESEARCH

APTRA says it will also continue its advocacy and research programme, which is intended to support and protect the duty free and travel retail industry in the region. As announced in late 2012, the association is working on a training programme for retail staff on the principles of responsible retailing.

Sunil Tuli, APTRA President: “These new arrivals among APTRA’s members is further endorsement of the association’s work and our commitment to ensuring the industry continues to trade unhindered by misguided regulations.”
