CAAS keeps charges low

By Administrator |

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) yesterday revealed the extent to which its new low cost terminal at Changi Airport will keep costs low for airline and passenger users.

The CAAS said that the total passenger charge for travellers departing from the terminal will be S$13 ($7.79), compared with S$21 ($12.58) for the existing Changi Airport Terminals 1 and 2.
In addition, CAAS claims that airlines and other businesses operating from the terminal will save up to 50% on office and shop rentals, compared with its existing terminals.
‘The simple design and layout of the new terminal will enable us to lower airport charges significantly. These cost savings will help to stretch the dollar for airlines and travellers,’ said CAAS Director-General, Wong Woon Liong.
As has already been documented, both DFS Singapore (liquor and tobacco) and Nuance-Watson (perfumes and cosmetics) will be the lead retailers in the terminal which will comprise two single-storey adjacent buildings, with one for arrivals and the other departures.
Only one airline – Tiger Airways – has agreed to use the terminal so far, but the CAAS said yesterday that it is in talks with others. While the new terminal is due to open on March 26, in true efficient Singaporean style it is actually expected to be completed and ready for testing next month.
