Clark Airport to be expanded
By Administrator |
Construction is expected to begin on expanding Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) at the former US air base in Clark, Pampanga in the Philippines next month and Duty Free Philippines has expressed an interest in
opening a store there.
Clark International Airport Corporation is due to appoint a builder for the project this month with the objective of completing all works by late October or early November.
Approximately Ps.250m ($5.1m) has already been earmarked for a doubling of the existing 5,365sq m passenger terminal and further funding is being made available by the state-owned Manila International Airport Authority.
Currently this terminal can only handle around one million passengers a year with 0.5m travelling through it in 2006. But this is expected to increase rapidly with the addition of new budget carriers Air Asia Berhad of Malaysia and Tiger Airways of Singapore. With the new terminal DMIA wants to raise its annual passenger handling capacity to 2.5m.
