Luxenew18Duty Free Philippines Corporation (DFPC) has reported sales of PHP4.1m ($76,516) at its new Luxe Duty Free shopping outlet during the first week of soft opening (17-24 October).

As reported, DFPC is anticipating ‘modest profits’ in its first year of operation at the new Manila downtown store located at the SM Mall of Asia entertainment and leisure complex in Pasay City.

The multi-level Luxe outlet features 3,000sq m of retail space over two floors and the firm says it is performing well in the early stages of trading.

DFPC Chief Operating Officer Vicente Angala said: “This is a good indication of duty free Luxe’s robust sales performance until the holiday season.

“Our primary goal is to set the standard of bringing imported luxury items and export quality Philippine local products for our balikbayans and foreign tourists.

“We are optimistic that [the] sales performance will continue to rise when we do our grand opening in the first quarter of 2019 and as we develop the store’s awareness to the public.”

Duty Free Philippines’ Luxe Duty Free outlet soft-opened in downtown Manila this month.

According to the company, the primary strategy is to develop Luxe Duty Free as the most convenient and cost-effective luxury store available to the numerous Southeast Asian tourists flocking to the country, who are seeking bargains on luxury brands.

As mentioned, DFPC is expecting to earn ‘modest’ profits based on its calculations with Angala telling TRBusiness: “Our projections are based on initial growth, which will be moderate as we establish awareness in the market.”
