DFP soft opens Luxe Duty Free Manila downtown store

The DFP Luxe store at the Mall of Asia Complex soft opened on Thursday.

Duty Free Philippines Corporation (DFPC) yesterday soft launched its new luxury shopping outlet Luxe Duty Free at the SM Mall of Asia entertainment and leisure complex in Pasay City, Manila.

This week’s opening acts as a prelude to a full launch due in mid-November, a source close to the opening has confirmed to TRBusiness.

As previously reported, the multi-level Luxe store features 3,000sq m of retail space over two floors; 2,000sq m on the ground level displaying fashion and luxury goods, liquor, tobacco and confectionery, plus a 1,000sq m mezzanine level showcasing a large array of international perfume and cosmetic brands.

Bernadine ‘Dino’ R. Belmonte, Deputy General Manager for Operations at DFP told TRBusiness Asia Correspondent David Hayes in an exclusive interview earlier this year that Luxe marks a ‘new era’ for the Philippines duty free industry.

The retail space itself is designed to target foreign, free independent travellers (FITs), group tours, cruise passengers and visitors attending conventions, as the country aims to maintain the double-digit increases in foreign tourist arrivals recorded in the past six years.

Luxe’s merchandise supply and management concessionaire for luxury and fashion goods Regent Asia will have a large presence in perfume, cosmetics and fashion at the outlet, with between 30 to 35 boutiques.

Brands expected to appear at Luxe by the time it fully opens include Bally, Coach, Salvatore Ferragamo, Longchamp, Tory Burch, Tumi and Victoria’s Secret.

Montblanc, Tag Heuer, Paul & Shark and Porsche Design are also due to take corner displays or shop-in-shop fixtures.

Developer SM Supermalls says DFP is positioning Luxe as ‘The place to shop’ for travellers seeking ‘pasalubong’ gifts, a Filipino tradition, underpinning DFP’s commitment to satisfying the needs of those seeking local and international brands.
