DFZ showcases Martell and Chivas Regal at KLIA
By Kevin Rozario |
Two of Pernod Ricard’s most prestigious brands – Martell and Chivas Regal – are being promoted to arriving travellers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, by operator DFZ which trades as the Zon Duty Free.
In the new retail space, officially opened this morning, Martell Cognac has, for the first time in Asian duty free and travel retail, unveiled its Martell Trunk, designed by French luxury brand Pinel & Pinel and said, by Pernod Ricard, to be a collector’s item.
The vertical walk-in trunk, which will be present for three months at DFZ’s arrivals store (below left), features the entire Martell range and also contains 28 montres (small 20cl cylindrical flacons), or seven examples of four unique blends: the Exclusive Blends made from rare eaux-de-vie, some of which date back to 1927 and 1934. Each is a tailored composition to represent one of the four cognac terroirs: Borderies, Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne and Fins Bois.
The Martell Trunk contains: crystal – decanters, snifters, tulip glasses and tumblers; a silver-plate bucket in which to place the ice from the ice machine and crusher (located in the lower part of the trunk); and an array of cocktail utensils. There is a humidor of Montecristo and Cohiba cigars and accessories – a crystal ashtray, lighter and cigar cutter, five scented candles, a perfumed spray and a candle snuffer. A small blue leather-bound cellar master’s notebook contains all the handwritten tasting notes of Martell’s cellar master Benoît Fil on the Martell collection and the Exclusive Blends.
Alongside the Martell Trunk the brand will also present its limited editions such as Millesime 1968 which is only available in selected travel retail markets worldwide.
Meanwhile, Chivas Regal, for the first time, has opened a retail space using its new visual identity featuring vibrant 3D merchandising units in a bar-style format. The space has a focus on the launch of the travel retail exclusive Chivas Brothers’ Blend, a permanent addition to the DF&TR portfolio and the first product launch for the brand since Chivas Regal 25 Year Old in 2007. The complete Chivas Regal range is also available in store. With annual volume sales exceeding 4.9m nine-litre cases, Chivas Regal is claimed to be the top Scotch whisky in China and the number one ultra-premium Scotch whisky in the world.
Commenting on the arrivals showcase at KLIA for Martell and Chivas Regal, Sandrine Tesniere (right), Senior Brand Manager, Pernod Ricard Asia Duty Free, says: “Both are iconic brands in our portfolio and we are using the new space to stage spectacular displays and product exclusivities underlining their ultra-premium credentials and standing within travel retail.”
