Sarah Branquinho, President, DFWC: “Attracting and retaining highly competent and motivated talent within our industry is critical to its long-term development and is a significant global challenge today. The provision of Academy courses in Mandarin will help address this challenge in the fast-growing Chinese market.”
Duty Free World Council Academy (DFWCA) China will launch officially at next week’s TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference (7-11 May).
In recognition of China’s critical tax and duty free market, Academy courses will be accessible in Mandarin, in addition to English and Spanish, from Monday 8 May in a partnership with Amberich International (HK) Ltd and Ceventas Pty Ltd.
Sarah Branquinho, President, DFWC stated: “This is an exciting development for the Council and the Academy, and is testament to the Council’s commitment to raising industry standards globally.
“Attracting and retaining highly competent and motivated talent within our industry is critical to its long-term development and is a significant global challenge today. The provision of Academy courses in Mandarin will help address this challenge in the fast-growing Chinese market.”
Former Amberich International Managing Director, Jason Cao, now the Ambassador of DFWC Academy China, added: “We are very excited that the DFWC Academy China Certificate programme is officially launching in May at TFWA Singapore after one year of hard work.
“Amberich’s talent development team are proud to partner with the DFWC, in the creation of the DFWC Academy China learning platform.”

The DFWC says a lack of highly trained staff represents a constraint on developing tax and duty free markets in some part of China and the DFWCA China platform is accordingly ‘a major step’ in helping to address this challenge.
Students can enrol and access DFWCA courses in Mandarin, as well as 24-hour support in the language as necessary.
The courses are designed to complement retailers and brands’ in-house training, says DFWC.
The flagship ‘Certificate in Duty Free and Travel Retail’ is designed primarily for frontline retail staff and offers a holistic overview of the global industry, the specific characteristics of the channel, and deep insights into shoppers’ expectations and behaviours.
A DFWC Academy information booth will be present during the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition and Conference.
