House of Suntory opens permanent boutique at HKIA

Suntory Global Spirits has strengthened its presence in Asian travel retail with the opening of the first permanent House of Suntory shop-in-shop at Hong Kong International Airport, developed in partnership with China Duty Free Group’s Duty Zero by cdf.
Located in Terminal 1 Departures, East Hall North, the 30sq m boutique introduces an immersive retail concept dedicated to Japanese craftsmanship and the art of gifting, reinforcing the premium positioning of Japanese whisky within the travel retail channel.
The opening marks the first collaboration between the House of Suntory and Duty Zero by cdf and reflects both partners’ ambition to elevate the luxury spirits experience for international travellers passing through one of Asia Pacific’s busiest aviation hubs.
The space showcases a curated portfolio of the House of Suntory’s leading brands, including Hibiki, Yamazaki, Hakushu, Toki and Roku.
Ashish Gandham, Managing Director Global Travel Retail at Suntory Global Spirits, said the opening represents an important milestone in the company’s travel retail strategy. “The launch of our first permanent House of Suntory shop-in-shop at Hong Kong International Airport marks an inspiring new milestone in our partnership with Duty Zero by cdf,” he said. “This space allows us to share the very best of Japanese craftsmanship with a truly international audience. By uniting immersive design with our most exceptional whiskies, we continue to premiumise the global travel retail spirits landscape, enrich the traveller experience, and strengthen the presence of The House of Suntory across this vital channel.”
The boutique’s design draws heavily on traditional Japanese aesthetics, combining natural materials with contemporary retail architecture. Translucent washi screens create a warm, inviting glow, while wooden lattice structures inspired by Kigumi craftsmanship introduce a sense of balance and precision.
Inside the boutique, a circular feature wall inspired by the traditional Marumado window design frames the brand’s flagship whiskies, presenting Hibiki, Yamazaki and Hakushu as centrepieces in a gallery-style display that celebrates the heritage of Japanese whisky making.
A dedicated tasting bar anchors the experience, where brand ambassadors guide travellers through curated whisky tastings and introduce rare or higher-aged expressions under the concept of the “Beatification of Time”. The space is designed to appeal both to collectors seeking limited releases and travellers discovering Japanese whisky for the first time.
An adjoining ‘Art of Japanese Gifting’ area completes the retail journey, offering gift-ready presentations and personalised recommendations tailored to travellers seeking premium souvenirs or special-occasion purchases.
Enzo Li, Deputy General Manager at Duty Zero by cdf, said the opening enhances the airport’s premium spirits offering. “We are committed to creating a world-class retail environment where iconic brands can showcase their portfolio and express their heritage in a compelling way,” he explained. “This new House of Suntory opening adds further depth to our prestige spirits collection, offering travellers a refined destination for discovery, gifting and rare whisky exploration.”
The launch reflects the growing importance of Japanese whisky in global travel retail, as brands continue to invest in immersive retail environments to engage collectors and luxury spirits enthusiasts in major international hubs.
