Ian Macleod lines up whisky trio and Edinburgh Gin release for Singapore

IMD will release a new 32 year old Rosebank release into travel retail.

Ian Macleod Distillers (IMD) has revealed its plans for the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference in Singapore this month, with travel retail-exclusive Scotch whiskies and a new Edinburgh Gin expression set to take the spotlight.

The independent distiller, blender and bottler will also provide an update on its Rosebank and Edinburgh Gin distillery builds, both expected to be complete in the next 12 months. 

Three new whisky expressions are set to be revealed at the trade show, including the second edition in the travel retail-exclusive Rosebank Single Malt Vintage Series. 

Released at 32 years old, just 350 bottles 70cl of the 47.8% ABV Lowland malt will be available in the channel. 

Showcasing Rosebank’s triple pot-still distillation and use of worm tub condensers, given tasting notes include Victoria sponge, pineapple, caramelised pecans, and crisp fruity notes. 

Blended Scotch and cask strength Scotch focuses

IMD will also launch a fourth expression from its King Robert II brand, already well-established in Asia and GTR’s top-selling value blended Scotch, according to the company.

Finished for six months in sherry casks, King Robert II Sherry Cask Finish will be available in Asia following a period of exclusivity in Europe. 

Other expressions on display at the exhibition will include King Robert II 12 years old, King Robert II Treble Cask Matured and GTR-exclusive King Robert II 8 years old. 

Wrapping up the whisky launches for the region is a new GTR-exclusive Highland release from IMD’s As We Get It brand, which focuses on independently bottled single malts released at cask strength and natural colour with no chill filtration. 

Each new travel retail-exclusive batch will be created from a maximum of 15 to 20 casks. 

IMD’s broader Scotch portfolio on display includes single malts Glengoyne, Tamdhu, Rosebank and Smokehead.

New Edinburgh Gin flavour variant

IMD will also bring a botanical focus to its TFWA Asia Pacific stand with the release of Edinburgh Gin Orange & Basil.

The “full-strength” gin is made using Valencian oranges and herbal basil, and joins the brand’s wider portfolio of gins, flavoured gins and gin liqueurs available across key Asia Pacific airports.

Global Travel Retail Director William Ovens and Hong-Kong based Travel Retail Regional Director Kelvin Ng, who joined the business 18 months ago, will be present at the trade show. 

TFWA AP will see a new flavour variant from Edinburgh Gin and a TREX release from the As We Get It brand of independently bottled Scotch whiskies.

We offer customers in the region a winning combination – a family business culture with an extensive and highly regarded brand portfolio; we are very optimistic about the future in the post-Covid era.” 

Ng added: “It is an exciting time for Ian Macleod Distillers. We have two new distilleries opening within 12 months and are investing to create new and distinctive high-quality whiskies and gins to satisfy growing global demand. 

“We look forward to the exhibition and to reconnecting with established customers, cementing new relationships and introducing our portfolio, including exciting launches, to potential new partners.”

Earlier this year, IMD launched 16 year old independent bottling Chieftain’s Single Cask Cigar Malt on board the Viking Line Cinderella Whisky Fair supported by tastings and masterclasses.
