Unifree Duty Free holds a 25-year contract to operate airside commercial space at INA.

Operator İGA Havalimani İşletmesi (İGA)has shared with TRBusiness further renderings of the expansive commercial area at Istanbul New Airport (INA).

The images include a much-anticipated view of operator Unifree Duty Free’s shop fascias [scroll below for a picture gallery].

Early reaction from passengers to the $11.7bn mega-hub’s five Bosphorus-inspired retail villages appears to be positive, as TRBusiness reported exclusively last month.

Unifree Duty Free, in which Gebr. Heinemann holds a 60.8% stake, has a 25-year duty free contract to operate 55,000sq m of commercial space.

‘FURTHER DELAYS’

INA conducted a soft opening in October, ahead of an anticipated ‘full’ opening in December, however, Turkey’s state airports authority DHMI is understood to have postponed the transition until March.

A BBC report in Turkish claims a letter was sent to ‘related institutions and companies’ with ‘possible adverse weather’ among the reasons for the delay, but this is unconfirmed.

IGA told TRBusiness in December that flag carrier Turkish Airlines will ‘increase its flight routes step-by-step in the coming months’.
