June 2006 for new Bangkok Airport
By Administrator |
June 2006 is the latest opening date that has been set by the Thai Government for the opening of commercial operations at Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
But this is only a preliminary estimate based on the government's discussions with contractors, according to Deputy Transport Minister General Chaiyanan Charoensiri who acknowledged that the airport opening is now nine months off the original schedule. Speaking to the local press he said the exact opening date should be known after September 28. At the same time, Somchai Sawasdeepon, Senior Executive Vice President of Airports of Thailand Plc, said that the airport is now more than 90% complete.
King Power (Thailand) will be keen to gain access to the airport as soon as possible considering the ambitious plans it has to transform the Bangkok duty free experience. The company is also building a huge downtown store to compliment the airport facility.
