Lagardère Travel Retail renews souvenir concessions contract with Changi

By Charlotte Turner |

Changi Airport Group (CAG) renewed Lagardère Travel Retail’s souvenir shop concessions contract to operate the ‘Discover Singapore’ stores in Terminals 1, 2 and 3, reaffirming a 13-year partnership between the two companies.

Changi Airport was one of the first airports to debut the ‘Discover’ concept by Lagardère Travel Retail, delivering ‘true Sense of Place with warm local hospitality to travellers passing through Singapore’, said the retailer.

“Celebrating the vibrancy and diverse culture of Singapore, the concept delivered culturally-inspired designs and rich product offerings to millions of travellers,” said Lagardère.

“Its one-of-a-kind, emotionally-driven design and storytelling concepts have introduced countless local brands, gifts and souvenirs to inspire travellers since its inception in 2008.|

NEXT-GENERATION CONCEPT

The next-generation ‘Discover Singapore’ concept was developed by Lagardere Travel Retail in collaboration with the Singapore Management University to address the changing needs of travellers.

The new concept piloted in Terminal 1 in December 2019 and reportedly received excellent response from the travellers.

According to Lagardère, enhancements to the remaining stores will take place in the coming months to serve returning customers as travel restrictions gradually get lifted.

Inspired by the cosmopolitan garden city, emblems and icons such as the Merlion and the Orchid will take centre-stage and enhance the concept’s identity.

SUSTAINABILITY A KEY DRIVER

The new ‘Discover Singapore’ will showcase an entirely fresh and open concept, with lightness and greenery weaved into its design.

Travellers can also expect to find new and exciting curated gifts and souvenirs from all around Southeast Asia, a reflection of Singapore’s geographical history and important identity as the key trading port for the region.

Sustainability will be a key driver in the design, with the adoption of circular design principles, methods of construction and the use of innovative materials.

Lagardère said that ‘Discover Singapore’ is a true embodiment of the company’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility through its PEPS strategy (Planet, Ethics, People, Social).

From sustainable design and construction methodologies to dedicated actions towards reducing environmental waste, and increasing community involvement and social contribution, Lagardere Travel Retail said it continuously innovates ‘Discover Singapore’ in every aspect of its activities.

Severine Lanthier, Chief Strategy and Development Officer & Regional COO Asia, Lagardere Travel Retail added: “We are ecstatic to strengthen our partnership with Changi Airport Group and serve travellers in one of the world’s most awarded airports.
