Lotte DF introduces bio-authentication payment service at Gimpo Airport

With the introduction of this service, domestic customers can purchase duty free goods without having to show their passports, boarding passes, or payment cards.
Lotte Duty Free has officially opened the first bio-authentication and payment service in the duty free industry at its Gimpo Airport branch. Customers can now purchase duty free items without a passport, boarding pass, or payment card, simply by verifying their bio-markers.
Lotte noted it expects the waiting time for payment according to the purchase process when using duty-free shops will be reduced, and the convenience of purchasing for customers will be greatly improved.
Discounts and giveaways will also be held to commemorate the opening of the service, including a KRW5,000 discount for purchases over US$100, alongside a coffee coupon won through a lottery.
Lotte Duty Free Shop said it will continue to strive to provide customers with a more convenient shopping environment through digital transformation.
The service was promoted and developed alongside Korea Customs Service and through cooperation with the Korea Airports Corporation.
When a customer registers their bio-information at a kiosk in the international terminal of Gimpo Airport, Lotte Duty Free supports the purchase process by providing identity verification and boarding information through it.
Payment cards can be registered in the Korea Airports Corporation’s application ‘Smart Airport’.
In the future, based on the service satisfaction of users, Lotte noted it plans to expand the operation to Gimhae Airport.
An official from Lotte Duty Free said: “We expect that the introduction of bio authentication and payment services will greatly improve the purchasing convenience of customers using Gimpo Airport Duty Free.
We will continue to lead the digital transformation of the duty free industry and continue to introduce various innovative services that can enhance customer experience.”
