Lotte Duty Free opens Kering boutique in Busan as eyewear sales soar +260%

By Charlotte Turner |

Lotte Duty Free has opened a Kering Eyewear boutique at its Busan branch; the first for Korea and the largest store in Asia, according to the country’s leading travel retailer, which plans to open another at its Seoul flagship store on 11 August.

According to Lotte Duty Free, in the last three months eyewear sales to Koreans increased by about 260% compared to the previous three months. LDF attributes the rise in demand to the start of the holiday season.

The high-end boutique features seven brands including Gucci, Cartier, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Montblanc, and MCQ. Alexander McQueen will join the portfolio later this month.

To celebrate the store opening, Lotte Duty Free is offering a complimentary engraving service on eyewear cases for buying customers until October.

A large media wall has been installed in the new store, promoting the seven brands whilst a virtual fitting service using AR (augmented reality) technology, is also available.

In the future, Lotte plans to offer 360-degree virtual access to the store using VR (virtual reality) for those customers who can’t visit in person.

As previously mentioned, Lotte Duty Free plans to open another Kering boutique at its Myeongdong main store on 11 August.

Lee Seung-guk, Head of Lotte Duty Free’s Product Division, said: “We will continue to work hard to provide customers with a variety of products and a differentiated shopping experience.”
