M1nd-set Monthly insights series: Hainan 2021 sales figures dissected

According to m1nd-set’s latest Hainan Insights column – exclusive to TRBusiness – 45% of Hainan duty free shoppers now use new delivery services introduced last year.

The number of categories being purchased has risen since then and basket sizes have also increased, according to m1nd-set’s latest data.

In 2021, cosmetics, watches and jewellery were the top three best-sellers in duty free shops and more 70 million items were bought by 6.7m shoppers.

The 10 duty free shops in Hainan now command a portfolio of 720 brands between them over a total retail footprint of 220,000sq m.
