MAHB defers retail target
By Administrator |
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has told reporters that it now does not expect its commercial revenues to account for half of its sales turnover by 2008.
Speaking to local reporters ahead of the recent Trinity Forum 2007 on Sunday, MAHB Managing Director Datuk Seri Bashir Ahmad said this target would most probably be achieved in 2010 now that the government has decided to suspend the upgrading of the retail facilities at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
MAHB had hoped to increase the retail space at KLIA by around 30% this year, but the government has put the plan on hold because of concerns that ongoing construction work will paint a negative picture of the country for arriving visitors during Visit Malaysia Year 2007.
Bashir told reporters that this work will now most probably be completed next year and MAHB would hope to see the benefit of the pull through in revenues in 2009. Currently commercial activities account for around 35% of all revenues at KLIA.
