Ian Macleod Distillers launched the new Tamdhu Single Malt Gran Reserva into Asia Pacific travel retail this month in partnership with China Duty Free Group (CDFG).

The travel retail exclusive expression, which is housed in a deep red and gold presentation box, is available now in Hainan and select airports in China.

“We are hugely excited to be working with Ian Macleod Distillers and adding to the Tamdhu range with the new Gran Reserva in China travel retail,” said China Duty Free Group President, Charles Chen.

“We look forward to our customers tasting this wonderfully complex, exclusively sherry cask-matured whisky.”

Ian Macleod Distillers’ Global Travel Retail Director, William Ovens added: “Tamdhu has real momentum in the China domestic market and this gives us real confidence that it will be well received in the travel retail environment.”

The news marks Tamdhu’s second listing with CDFG, following the introduction of the Tamdhu 18 Years Old Single Cask in June.

Following its initial launch with CDFG, the new Tamdhu Single Malt Gran Reserva will be rolled out to other selected luxury travel retail outlets around the world.

The new expression is a celebration of the Spanish sherry oak heritage of Tamdhu Speyside Single Malt.

As such, it’s set to be a draw card for sherry cask whisky connoisseurs.

The whisky is matured in European oak first-fill Oloroso sherry casks and stored in the cool environment of the distillery’s traditional dunnage warehouses, located in Knockando, Scotland.

Its character is enhanced by European oak casks, which gives it its rich mahogany colour and distinctive taste.

Tamdhu Gran Reserva is bottled un-chill-filtered at 46% ABV, is entirely natural in colour and has an RRP of US$199.

The Tamdhu Single Malt brand first launched in travel retail in 2018, in select European outlets.

The brand dates to 1897, the year of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, when the distillery was founded on the banks of the River Spey, utilising water drawn from its own spring.

Just one year later, the founders secured its first shipment of sherry casks from Spain.

Tamdhu Distillery continues the tradition today, by maturing its single malt Scotch whisky exclusively in European and American Oloroso sherry casks.
