Penfolds opens largest global shop-in-shop at Sydney Airport
By Naomi Chadderton |
Penfolds has opened its largest shop-in-shop boutique worldwide at Sydney Airport, debuting a new global design concept as the Australian wine brand steps up its investment in travel retail.
Created in partnership with Heinemann Oceania, the remodelled 44.6sqm space occupies a prominent position along the main retail walkway in Terminal 1. Its new location and layout are designed to improve visibility and make the breadth of the Penfolds portfolio easier for international travellers to navigate. The boutique takes its design cues from Penfolds’ distinctive red bottle cap, with layered shades of red and architectural details creating a contemporary take on the brand’s visual identity.
Inside, the customer journey has been divided into dedicated zones spanning Penfolds’ four countries of origin, luxury wines, gifting and limited releases. A flexible feature area will change throughout the year to spotlight launches, seasonal campaigns and gifting occasions, giving the permanent boutique scope to regularly refresh its offer.
The portfolio is broad, ranging from Penfolds Collection wines including Grange and its Bin series to seasonal releases for occasions such as Chinese New Year. Travel retail exclusives also play an important role, including City Explorer Packs featuring duo gift boxes tailored to 13 destinations. Adding an element of rarity is the Bin 389 Designed by Troye Sivan 1.5L Magnum. Just 20 bottles are available globally, with two allocated to Heinemann Oceania for Sydney Airport.
Wine discovery is supported by dedicated education areas and Brand Ambassador-led tastings during the launch period, while a gift-wrapping station reflects the continued importance of gifting within the category.
Michael Jackson, Global Director, Global Travel at Penfolds, said: “Travel retail continues to provide exciting opportunities to inspire shoppers through premium luxury experiences that extend beyond the traditional retail environment. Our new Sydney Airport boutique reflects our continued investment in the channel, combining immersive design, expert guidance, gifting solutions and a compelling portfolio of wines to encourage travellers to explore the world of Penfolds.”
Rosi Fernandez, Managing Director at Heinemann Oceania, said: “The new Penfolds boutique is exactly the kind of experience we want to create for Sydney Airport, something worth stopping for and, ultimately, worth travelling for. It brings together an iconic Australian brand, a great location and an experience built around discovery, education and exceptional service.”
Sydney Airport General Manager Retail Gail Taylor added: “The new boutique creates a stronger sense of place within our terminal, showcasing the very best of Australian wine while giving customers an engaging and elevated shopping experience before they depart Sydney.”
