‘Sharks in Macau’: DFS in deep sea exploration with Ulysse Nardin watches
By Charlotte Turner |
DFS is staging a Ulysse Nardin pop-up concept, ‘Sharks in Macau’ to promote the launch of the watchmaker’s new Skeleton X and Freak X pieces at its T Galleria by DFS, City of Dreams store in Cotai, Macau, until 31 December.
Established in 1846, Swiss watchmaking brand Ulysse Nardin is famous for its ‘time-honoured enamelling techniques’, including Grand Feu, Cloisonné, Champlevé and Flinqué.
As well as introducing silicium components in 2001, “the brand has never ceased to explore the pinnacle of fine watchmaking and create novelties combining top-class craftsmanship and revolutionary technology,” said DFS.
“Exploring has become Ulysse Nardin’s motivation, and the result is a universe of X-factor: X like an adventure, X like our deepest desires, X for the unknown, X for what’s forbidden, bold and exciting.”
Inspired by ‘the discovery of the mysterious underwater world’, the pop up features Ulysse Nardin’s first interactive shark photobooth in Asia Pacific where adventurers can dive into the deep sea and experience a moment with ferocious and dangerous sharks suddenly appearing and attacking courageous divers.”
SKELETON X AND FREAK X
To celebrate the opening of the pop up store, Ulysse Nardin will be showcasing its Skeleton X and Freak X models.
The Skeleton X case, reshaped and very small at 42mm, is ‘perfectly on-trend’, said the brand. It is said to be more angular, more masculine, less round.
It is available in four different satin-finishes: satin-finish titanium blue, satin-finish titanium black, satin-finish rose gold or matte-finish Carbonium Gold.
The Freak X, closed linked to the ‘Freak antecedents’ models, represents ‘an entry point’ into the Freak collection, said DFS.
“It has a crown for time correction, which breaks with one of the most iconic aspects of the previous crown-less Freak models,” it added.
“The sizing is tighter – 43mm. The baguette movement is still a carousel, turning once on itself every hour to indicate the time. It is simpler, bolder, and has fewer wheels. It has no dial and no hands – the central bridge acts as a minute hand and one of the wheels indicates the hours.”
