The Singapore government has introduced new travel and quarantine measures aimed at stemming the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

Effective today (16 March) at 23:59 hours, those entering Singapore with a recent travel history to *ASEAN countries, Japan, Switzerland or the UK in the past fortnight will be issued with a 14-day Stay Home Notice (SHN) and will be required to provide proof of where they intend to stay.

Short-term nationals of any ASEAN country will also be required to submit health information to the Singapore Overseas Mission in their country of residence before travel.

The advisory, applicable to business and leisure travellers, applies for 30 days and will be reviewed thereafter.

CRUISE VISITS STOPPED

Returning residents, work pass holders and other employees with a recent travel history to the above will also receive a SHN and conform to the same measures.

Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) in association with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) will be responsible for approving submissions. Those that do not follow procedure will be denied entry to the country.

Those travellers entering Singapore that exhibit fever and/or other symptoms of respiratory illness are required to undergo a Covid-19 swab test at checkpoints and be issued with a SHN to be served in full, even in cases where the test results are negative. Singapore will also stop port calls for all cruise vessels.

Port calls for all cruise vessels will cease.

The World Health Organization last week declared Covid-19 a global pandemic.

Singapore has already prohibited entry (including transit) to the country for those with a recent travel history (last 14 days) to Mainland China, Iran, Republic of Korea, Italy, France, Spain and Germany.

The issuance of new visas – together with short-term and multiple visit visas – to those with PRC and Iranian passports have been suspended.

Elsewhere, cultural, sports and entertainment events with crowds of more than 250 will be deferred or cancelled.

In instances where tickets have already been sold, organisers must demonstrate that ‘satisfactory precautionary measures’ are in place.

For all other mass gatherings including private functions and business events, organisers are advised to put in place precautions such as reducing the scale, reducing crowding, and implementing methods to facilitate contact tracing.

*ASEAN countries besides Singapore: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
