Sun Group & Changi Airports partner to develop Phu Quoc International Airport
By Trbusiness Editor |
Sun Group and Changi Airports International (CAI) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to support the development of Phu Quoc International Airport.
Under the partnership, CAI will provide advisory services to enhance airport operations, commercial programmes, air connectivity, capacity and service quality.
The collaboration follows extensive exchanges in both Vietnam and Singapore, exploring opportunities to combine complementary expertise in destination development and airport management.
The new partnership aims to transform Phu Quoc into a travel destination, delivering world-class service standards and a seamless travel experience ahead of the APEC 2027 Summit, when the airport is expected to welcome global leaders and international visitors.
The collaboration also aims to further strengthen Phu Quoc’s position as an emerging aviation and tourism hub in the Asia Pacific region.
Changi inspires Phu Quoc transformation
Phu Quoc handled around six million passengers in 2025. The Government-approved master plan includes a new runway and Terminal 2, projected to increase capacity to 24 million passengers per year, scalable to 50 million in the long term.
Globally, Singapore Changi Airport is widely recognised for its operational excellence, combining efficient airport management with unique passenger experiences that make the airport a destination in itself.
Sun Group has developed integrated tourism, resort and entertainment ecosystems across Vietnam, transforming previously lesser-known destinations into internationally recognised travel hubs.
By bringing together the best of CAI’s airport management expertise and Sun Group’s destination development experience, the partnership aims to create a distinctive travel destination at Phu Quoc, where aviation infrastructure and tourism experiences are seamlessly integrated.
Sun Group Chairman Dang Minh Truong commented: “Airports today play a far greater role than transportation infrastructure. They are gateways that shape the first impression of a destination.
“Singapore Changi Airport is widely recognised for its operational excellence and pioneering airport destination concept. Through this partnership with Changi Airports International, we aim to develop Phu Quoc International Airport into a true ‘airport destination’ where the travel experience begins the moment visitors arrive.”
CAI Chief Executive Officer Eugene Gan noted: “We are impressed by Sun Group’s vision for developing Phu Quoc as the next upcoming travel destination. Its integrated tourism and entertainment eco-system provides a strong foundation for the long-term development of Phu Quoc International Airport as a key gateway for the island.
“We look forward to contributing our expertise to enable Sun Group to create a world-class airport experience.”
