Talking TRMarketplace video series: Tony Cheung, Founder, SmartGo

By Andrew Pentol |

 – TRBusinessTravel accessories brand SmartGo Worldwide Inc is hoping its participation at TRMarketplace will increase exposure and awareness of its new Pokefi Pocket Wi-Fi Hotspot Device.

The one-button hotspot device helps users stay connected on the go and is pre-loaded with five gigabytes of data, which is ready to use and has no expiry date.

A simple-to-use device, which is part of Hong Kong-based company Everlong’s brand portfolio, SmartGo covers 100 countries and costs $3 per gigabyte to use. Day-passes for overseas and home countries are also available.

Tony Cheung, Founder, SmartGo said: “Our flagship product SmartGo Pokefi is becoming popular on airlines and cruiseships. The 4G Pokefi wi-fi helps people stay connected without expensive roaming charges.

“The brand, however, is rather new, so by exhibiting at TRMarketplace, we hope more people will know about the product globally. We are also looking forward to acquiring some potential partners during the exhibition.”

LESSONS LEARNT

During the course of the coronavirus (Covid-19), Cheung and his team have learnt some valuable lessons. “One thing we have learnt is not to put your eggs in one basket. We realised that we needed to diversify the business and not just focus on physical duty free retail and inflight sales.

“Another thing we realised was that we needed to review the product portfolio and add some travel related health and hygiene products.

“We subsequently launched a DIY disinfectant maker which can be carried on the go. Adding salt and water is all that needs to be done. Previously, we never thought travellers would need such products.”

TRMarketplace is available for all categories and will allow each supplier/brand access to a dedicated ‘brand hub’.

With a fixed price to exhibit of GBP£4,495 (ex VAT) – available to every company regardless of size – TRBusiness and Bluedog Productions believe that this opportunity is accessible to all.

Registration is open for DF&TR retailers, airports, cruise lines, border stores and airlines, who will gain free-of-charge access to the TRMarketplace.
