TFWA Asia Pacific Live attracted 261 representatives from 43 buyers and landlords.

A total of 677 DF&TR industry executives from 235 companies showed out in force for Tax Free World Association’s (TFWA) Asia Pacific Live event (9-11 May) in Singapore this week.

Business networking returned to the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre for the first time since 2019, with industry peers enjoying a content-rich workshop programme and plenty of meetings.

The 677 total splits out as follows: 261 representatives from 43 buyers and landlords; 100 attendees from 56 agents; and 206 delegates from 83 brands.

The remainder of that figure comprised a range of industry colleagues, partners and the press.

Across the two-day event, 411 meetings were conducted via the TFWA One2One meetings service sponsored by Imperial Brands and iClick Interactive in addition to many others.

SIX WORKSHOPS; TWO DAYS

Six workshops took place, with opening addresses on day one (10 May) from TFWA President Erik Juul-Mortensen and Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) President Sunil Tuli.

Renowned futurist and Fourth Industrial Revolution expert Charlie Ang offered a thought-provoking keynote on new technologies and how consumption models are shaping the business.

Industry friends and colleagues enjoyed a busy two days of conference sessions and meetings, taking the opportunity to reconnect in person for the first time at the regional event since 2019.

Among the other highlights of the week was a dedicated focus on India’s travel retail markets and two TRBusiness-moderated panel sessions on sustainability-led topics.

The first, entitled ‘Future proofing for a changing CSR landscape’, took place during the APTRA Exchange session on day one.

Meanwhile, TFWA and TRBusiness teamed up to host the ‘Sustainable Futures’ session on day two that featured a major consumer research study courtesy of m1nd-set.

Delegates enjoyed networking lunches during the two days, with coffee breaks sponsored by Lindt, Pauline and Leonidas.

TRBusiness moderated two important panel sessions considering the importance of sustainability and CSR to businesses and consumers, including ‘Sustainable futures’ that took place on Wednesday 11 May.

In addition, they had the chance to relax with industry friends and colleagues after the conclusion of business on Monday and Tuesday for networking drinks at the TFWA Asia Pacific Lounge, sponsored by Diageo, William Grant & Sons, Duty Free Global, Brown-Forman, Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail and Heineken.

An informal wine-tasting rounded off the programme on Wednesday 11 May.
