WiTR will welcome actor, comedian and humanitarian Maitreyi Karanth to its Singapore meeting.

Women in Travel Retail (WiTR) will welcome actor, producer, comedian and humanitarian Maitreyi Karanth to its next meeting, set to be held in Singapore at the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference at 17:30 on 9 May.

TFWA has reserved an area in its TFWA Asia Pacific Lounge for the gathering, which is open to both WiTR members and friends of the organisation.

Special guest Karanth will be present for the first half an hour before leaving to perform later that evening.

Karanth is the founder of the Koma Karanth Foundation, WiTR’s charity for 2023, which provides homes, education, community centres and medical support for single women in Gloria, Oriental Mindoro, The Philippines.

WiTR has a fundraising target of €15,000 which will build three homes in the community.

To date, the Foundation has constructed 24 homes, an old-age community centre, a tutoring centre for children, provided solar street lights, drilled wells, and provided water to a remote, tribal community of 26 families.

It has also built and equipped convenience stores, a cake shop and a tea shop, to provide business ownership opportunities and employment to women in the community.

The meeting in Singapore follows a gathering held at the IAADFS Summit of the Americas last week, which also generated funds towards the €15,000 target.

This year, WiTR teamed up with Tumi to celebrate International Women’s Day with a sparkling event at its Regent Street store in London.
