ARI opens at Vnukovo

Aer Rianta International has opened its permanent 300sq m duty free store at Moscow’s third airport, Vnukovo. ARI Director General Eamon Foley said that the new store replaces a temporary facility that was opened earlier
this year and the company has high hopes for the airport in terms of traffic development.
‘It is an airport that is probably the newest in terms of development and infrastructure because it is a brand new terminal and a fantastic facility. They are trying to build their market share and the good thing is that the market in Moscow is growing at a phenomenal rate.
‘They don’t have any of the main international carriers at the moment because they are split between Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo. But they do have a very strong charter market and that is a strong business in Russia because you don’t have low cost carriers and Russians are discovering foreign travel at a phenomenal rate. They are doing what we used to do back in the sixties and that is heading off for the sunny climates like Turkey, Egypt and others. And of course, they are very, very good spenders.’
