Athens International Airport to welcome two Sim Local stores after tender win
By Luke Barras-hill |
Sim card provider Sim Local has won a competitive tender to open two shops at Athens International Airport (AIA).
One of the shops is located in the landside arrivals area with the other in the baggage reclaim hall.
Both will open in March under a contract that runs until 2027.
Inbound intercontinental travellers to Greece will be able to purchase sim cards for quick and easy connection to mobile networks prior to leaving the airport.
Ian Rankin, Chief Trading Officer at Sim Local, commented: “Winning this tender is a huge achievement for our business and allows us to expand our offering to an important new territory.
“We are proud that despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic we have continued to grow our retail footprint opening new stores and vending machines in several European airports. We have long coveted a presence in Athens, in AIA we have a fantastic partner to work with, and we are looking forward to opening two stores there next month.”
Sim Local has been vocal about its intention to grow its retail estate after opening its first overseas store at Brussels Airport last year.
In January, the company introduced a new POS at Heathrow airport amid a facelift for its existing units.
