Athens traffic up 6.5%

Athens International Airport (AIA) yesterday reported that nine-month passenger traffic grew by 6.5% year-on-year to 11.2m, boosted by a strong third quarter.
AIA said that traffic on international routes was stronger than on domestic flights, up 9% and 2.3% respectively, with the rise attributed to growth in both scheduled international and charter flights.
AIA said 4.6m passengers used the airport during the third quarter, an increase of 5% over the same period in 2004, when Athens hosted the Olympic Games. The Greek Government, which owns 55% of AIA, plans to list AIA on the Athens stock exchange next year.
