British Airways has reported a 6.5% decline in passenger numbers carried in May compared with the same month last year at the same time that business class traffic fell by 17.2% and its overall load

factor dropped by 1% to 75.1%.

The carrier reported record full-year losses last month, adding that the prospects for a market recovery look bleak in the short term.
