Retail, food & beverage and currency exchange tenders are set to launch at Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) later this year, operator Aeroporturi București SA has announced.
Interested parties will have the chance to lodge bids in a competitive process for a single retail package and two F&B packages covering around 1,500sq m and 2,200sq m, respectively.
The retail lot will span all categories, including convenience, across 21 locations, while two F&B packages spread over 25 locations will be up for grabs.
The units will be available throughout all terminal zones: landside and airside, in departures and arrivals.
Aeroporturi București SA says the tender is due to launch at the end of this month or the beginning of August, with bidders given until mid-October to present their proposals.
Winners are expected to be declared by the end of November, adds the airport operator.
Director General at Bucharest Airport Sorin Radu Păun said: “The 2023 commercial performance so far gives us confidence that soon we will again see air travel grow back to the pre-pandemic levels and beyond, but we have to be conscious that the pandemic may have changed certain passenger behaviours and we need to be well prepared to serve the post-pandemic traveller. To achieve this, we need the help of our retail partners.”
As Romania’s main hub airport situated in Otopeni, 16.5km from capital Bucharest’s city centre, OTP handled 12.6 million travellers in 2022.
Passenger numbers are forecast to reach parity with 2019 levels (14.7m) in 2024.
