More than 2m additional passengers passed through Dublin Airport during the first nine months of the year according to the Dublin Airport Authority bringing the annual total to date to 16.2m (+15%).
The European market delivered the strongest growth of 25% over the period with almost 8m passengers, and the DAA said that both Aer Lingus and Ryanair contributed significantly to the strong growth on these European routes.
Transatlantic traffic grew by 7% to just over 1m passengers with growth attributed to good performances on the New York route and in particular with the addition of daily flights into the New York area.
Meanwhile, UK traffic rose by 5% to 6.4m passengers for the first 9 months, while domestic traffic grew by an impressive 26% to over 600,000 passengers.
The DAA said: ‘A significant milestone was reached in June when more than 2m passengers travelled through the airport in one month for the first time. A further 2m passengers travelled through the airport each month in July, August and September.’
