Airports Company South Africa Limited (ACSA) has formally advertised its tender for the operation of 'Core Duty and Vat Free Stores' consisting mainly of fragrances, tobacco and alcohol in the international arrivals and departures airside
terminals at the airports of Cape Town, La Mercy (Durban) and O.R. Tambo (Johannesburg).
ACSA held its bid presentation on June 5 where potential bidders were asked to register their interest in the business, following the circulation of bid documents to interested parties since May 29 – ahead of the formal bid submission date of July 22 next month.
Within its pre-qualification criteria, ACSA says it is looking for the minimum specified rental; a specified minimum percentage of turnover rental; and sufficient relevant market experience from tenderers who can also demonstrate an annual sales turnover of at least ZAR.150m ($18.4m) for at least three of the past five years. In addition, it says that local bidders must submit a valid and original SARS Tax Clearance Certificate.
As reported already by TREND, all three airports' duty free shops are currently run by Big Five, in which Gebr. Heinemann has an interest and is also the procurement arm.
