Exquisite Schiphol Airport store sells special edition Cohiba for €379,000

The Exquisite high-end spirits and cigar boutique shop at Amsterdam Schiphol has sold the Cohiba 50 Aniversario Humidor and accompanying cigars to an international passenger for €379,000 ($421,940).
Operated by Schiphol Airport Retail (a joint venture between Gebr. Heinemann and Royal Schiphol Group), the revamped 136sq m space was unveiled in the presence of TRBusiness, SAR and Gebr. Heinemann representatives fellow me among others in April. In February this year, it was also announced that the Exquisite shop had been awarded the ‘Habanos Specialist’ seal. As a result, cigar connoisseurs visiting the outlet, which sells fine wines, spirits and cigars, know they will receive cuban cigar specialities and excellent service.
The humidor itself is a special edition commemorating the 50th anniversary of Cohiba, a series of just 50 humidors with 50 Habanos each, all individually numbered.
50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
The vitola Cohiba 50 Aniversario (60 ring gauge x 178 mm length) is the first in the Habanos portfolio with a 60 ring gauge, especially designed for the 50th anniversary celebration. In this No.10 humidor, all 50 cigars are numbered from 451 to 500. This edition is presented in an exclusive luxury cabinet, lined in authentic Cuban tobacco leaves covered in 24-carat gold. The case is made of different precious woods, including Makassar ebony, sycamore and Guarea Cedrata or Scented Guarea.
In addition, the humidor includes a range of accessories inside designed for the occasion, including a travel humidor for five Habanos, a handmade leather cigar case and an ashtray made with the same marquetry technique as used on the exterior and finished in fine Armenian obsidian. The cabinet also contains a device that allows its owner to follow the temperature and humidity conditions in the humidor directly on their smartphone or tablet.
Simon Asmus, Managing Director, Schiphol Airport Retail said: “All these details make this cabinet humidor a real piece of art, memorable and unique, for the brand’s most exclusive enthusiasts. Our customers know they can rely on the Exquisite store as a destination for the discovery of the world’s best and rarest cigars. The sale of the Cohiba 50 Aniversario Humidor underlines this fact.”
Rüdiger Stelkens, Gebr Heinemann, Director Purchasing Liquor Tobacco Confectionery and Fine Food added: “We are thrilled about the sale of the Cohiba 50 Aniversario Humidor at the Exquisite store at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The humidor represents a perfect example of creating a powerful product that promotes innovation, luxury and distinctiveness in the travel retail environment.”
Rody Frequin, Schiphol Airport Retail, Head of Commerce & Supply Chain concluded: “We are working very closely with the Purchasing department of Gebr. Heinemann in order to fulfil the demands of our Exquisite customers who are flying specially through Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to visit Exquisite.”
