Fishy tales from Stansted
By Doug Newhouse |
Stansted Airport has recently opened a fish pedicure spa in the airport terminal, a first for any London airport, with Blackjack Promotions and GarraSpa working together to create what is one of the newest and unique forms of pedicure.
Jaron Wikler, Blackjack’s Sales and Marketing Director commented: “We are delighted with the initial response we’ve had from this installment. Although this type of treatment is fairly well known, not many people have actually seen or experienced it yet, so inevitably our on-site staff are constantly answering questions from travellers on its benefits”.
Each Spa is said to be specifically designed for the terminal ensuring that travellers receive ‘the very best comfort’ whilst receiving their treatment from the therapeutic ‘Garra Rufa’ fish, widely known, not only for their cleaning skills, but also for the healing benefits found in their saliva.
LIFEGUARDS ON HAND
The area will be staffed and hosted by specially trained Blackjack personnel who will be responsible for selling the service to passengers, raising awareness of the treatment’s benefits and maintaining and servicing the aquariums and fish.
GarraSpa’s Mike Jaye said: “We felt that Stansted Airport was the best passenger terminal to start with as it’s known as one of the busiest in the UK as well as being a one-terminal venue, which means we have a much greater captive audience.
“In addition, the demographic of Stansted travellers fits our target market perfectly, and our research shows that these travellers are the type of people who would definitely enjoy this type of treatment. We are now working closely with Blackjack to roll this out to other airports in the UK”.
GarraSpa at Stansted will be on-site until the end of 2011.
