Fossil Inc opened the first Fossil store at a German airport location in Dusseldorf last month, building on the opening of the lifestyle company's first travel retail store opening in Europe at Zurich Airport in
February 2008.
The new Fossil store covers an area of 80sq m and is located directly alongside the check-in counters. With a curved store front of about 20m the company says it is 'extremely visible to all customers', providing 'the perfect showcase for all Fossil's accessories, which include men's and women's fashion watches, jewellery, handbags, small leather goods, and sunglasses.
The company said: ‘The Fossil Store reflects a Modern Vintage design aesthetic. This visual style represents a fusion of the old and the new, drawing its inspiration from vintage creative culture, Mid-Century Modern design, and the graphic principles of modern art. The atmosphere of the store is comfortable and inviting, with an ambience reflective of Fossil's authentic and friendly personality.’
Commenting on the new opening, Wolfgang Thoeren, Fossil's Vice President Retail Europe said: ‘Our authentic product and unique shopping experience creates the perfect environment for both gift-giving and personal must-haves. We invite everyone in the area to see our new store.’
He added: ‘Beside the city centres and shopping malls, Fossil stores at airports are important locations. The high frequency of international customers as well as the extensive catchment areas of airports make a major contribution to increasing our brand awareness. We are therefore very pleased that, in addition to Zurich, we are now present at a second airport location in Europe with Dusseldorf. We expect about 4.5 million passengers and customers to see and visit our store’.
Adding his comments, Fossil (Europe) GmbH EMEA and Travel Retail Managing Director Robert Christiano said: ‘Airports are the window to the world and we are very happy to show our brand in our own Fossil environment. It will help develop the brand and increase brand awareness’.
With 18m passengers a year, Dusseldorf International Airport is the third largest airport in Germany after Frankfurt and Munich.
