Gatwick CEO talks Star Wars & UK airport expansion

TRBusiness talks to Stewart Wingate, CEO, Gatwick Airport about the launch of the Star Wars Rogue One activation on the 23rd November 2016; just one of numerous initiatives the airport and World Duty Free are implementing to drive penetration into stores and improve the customer experience.
Wingate also tells TRBusiness what the next step is for Gatwick following the UK Government’s decision to approve a third runway at Heathrow Airport.
As reported, Dufry-owned World Duty Free, Disney and Gatwick Airport kicked off a six-week long programme of experiential activations ‘on airport’, promoting the forthcoming film release of ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ on 15th December.
Targeting the passenger at every touch point on their journey – from car park to departure lounge and World Duty Free store – this really is a tremendous feat in end-to-end marketing, made possible by all three collaborators and boosted by a strong social media strategy.
At Wednesday’s launch event in the World Duty Free store at Gatwick’s South Terminal – attended by stormtroopers and Death Troopers – ‘influential YouTuber’ and ‘avid Star Wars fan’ Jack Maynard, revealed the airport transformation, which has been months in the planning.
