Gebr. Heinemann completes expansion of Terminal 1 store at Vienna Airport

Gebr. Heinemann has expanded the footprint of its Main Shop Plaza in Vienna Airport Terminal 1 from 1,200sq m to around 2,000sq m. The store now offers the largest travel retail experience in Austria, according to the company.
The additional space has been harnessed to accommodate an expanded product range, featuring categories that are in growing demand. These include sunglasses, leathergoods, sneakers and niche fragrances. This offer can be adapted quickly and flexibly, as needed, Heinemann noted.
A wider selection of regional products such as Mozartkugeln, Manner waffles, original Sachertorte and Viennese wine are also available. Heinemann has also introduced new fashion brands Steve Madden and Michael Kors, as well as beauty brands Armani Privé, Creed and Kérastase.
Surprising and inspiring travellers
The extended store design is based on the market stalls at Vienna’s Naschmarkt. A flexible furniture system allows for quick changes. Digital elements such as the Lift & Learn Wine Screen and a Scent Table offer a modern shopping experience.
On the west side of the plaza is a video wall measuring around 13m high and 7m wide. Brands such as Steve Madden are staged on this wall in an immersive and eye-catching way, and in the promotional area directly in front of it.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by Roman Koch, Managing Director Heinemann Austria; Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport; Christoph Stump, Director Sales; Philipp Ahrens, Senior Vice President Center Management of Flughafen Wien AG; Josef Baumgartner, Commercial Manager Retail & Services of Flughafen Wien AG; and Parul Bajaj, Sales Team Leader.
Gebr. Heinemann Director Sales Christoph Stump commented: “We are proud to be able to offer our customers an even wider and more exclusive range of products. The expansion of the store is an important step towards further improving the shopping experience at Vienna Airport.
“Our aim is to be a valuable travel companion for travellers and to surprise and inspire them again and again with our spectacular assortment.”
Vienna Airport Joint CEO and COO Julian Jäger noted: “Vienna Airport recorded exceptional numbers this summer. With the growing traffic, it remains our goal to provide all travellers with a first-class experience and a pleasant stay. This also includes the continuous enhancement of the shopping offerings.

Store highlights include a promotional video wall, measuring around 13m high and 7m wide, on the west side of the plaza.
“The new duty-free shop has been very successful in this regard: more brand variety, a stronger regional assortment, more fashion and accessories, and a modern, inviting atmosphere.”
Jäger concluded: “The reopening is another milestone in our long-standing, successful partnership with Gebr. Heinemann. It underscores our commitment to positioning Vienna Airport as a five-star airport in the long term.”
Gebr. Heinemann has been operating stores at Vienna Airport since 2003 and now has nine stores at the location, spanning a total area of 4,800sq m. The company will open a 3,200sq m store at the airport when the south extension opens in 2027. The partnership between Vienna Airport and Gebr. Heinemann has been extended until 2034.
