Family-owned distiller, blender and bottler Ian Macleod Distillers (IMD) has released a pair of single malts into UK travel retail: The White Cask First-Fill Edition and Shieldaig American Oak Reserve.
The White Cask is a Speyside single malt that takes its name from the North American white oak used for bourbon barrels, while Shieldaig American Oak Reserve is a triple cask-matured Highland malt named after a remote village.
Both are part of IMD’s Specialty Malt Collection, which also includes As We Get It and The Six Isles.
The White Cask and Shieldaig are available now in all World Duty Free Stores, with The White Cask additionally available at Lagardère’s UK stores.
Available exclusively in GTR for two years, The White Cask is designed to be a contemporary, accessibly priced single malt that appeals to style-driven consumers.
An ongoing expression, it also targets single malt and blended whisky drinkers, and serve as a stepping stone into the malt category.
Suited to consumption neat or in cocktails, The White Cask is said to offer notes of sweet, soft fruits and buttery toast.
Shieldaig is a “modern classic” GTR-exclusive, with given tasting notes of creamy vanilla honey, and citrus.
Both whiskies were supported by month-long activations at London Heathrow Airport T3 Digital Bar, and London Luton Airport Discovery Bar.
Consumers were able to sample spirits with trained bar staff, and explore details about the brands through digital screens.
“There has been a very positive reaction to Shieldaig and The White Cask since the launch last month,” explains Ian Macleod Distillers’ Travel Retail Director, William Ovens.
“These are modern interpretations of classic single malts at affordable price points which fill a gap in the category; we are excited about the opportunity they present.”
The White Cask The First-Fill Edition 1L is bottled at 41.1% ABV with an RRSP of £39, while Shieldaig American Oak Reserve 1L is bottled at 40% ABV with an RRSP of £36.
Earlier this year, IMD launched 16 year old independent bottling Chieftain’s Single Cask Cigar Malt on board the Viking Line Cinderella Whisky Fair, supported by tastings and masterclasses.
