Paris CDG to launch dedicated foods emporium

Travel retailer, BuY Paris Duty Free, (Aéroports de Paris/Aelia) will open a dedicated fine foods and confectionery store at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport’s Terminal 2E on 1 December. It follows the launch of the brand’s first large department store-style offerings earlier this year.


With the new 124sq m unit, BuY Paris Duty Fre – a fascia of the joint venture operator Société de Distribution Aéroportuaire (Aéroports de Paris/LS Travel Retail) – will build on its aim of delivering an upscale Parisian shopping experience to passengers.


The gastronomy store features premium names such as Angelina, Fauchon, Maxim’s, Petrossian, Mariage Frères, and French specialities including Artzner, Rougié (foie gras), Château d’Estoublon (olive oil) and French AOC cheeses.


An extended range of premium chocolate brands are also present: Valrhona, Godiva, Neuhaus, Weiss, Marquise de Sévigné, Mlle de Margaux and Chapon, plus confectionery from established international players like Toblerone, M&M’s, Smarties, Ferrero, Kinder, Milka, Lindt and Nestlé.


Dedicated areas include Délices de Paris offering gourmet gifts and souvenirs of the French capital; ‘Now’, a section for new items and tasting offerings; and promotions in the Super Deals area. SDA says that the offer has been tailored to meet the needs of international travellers using T2E “who place French fine foods among their top expectations when coming to France”.


SDA has 72 points of sale at Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris Orly airports. Retail revenues at ADP rose by +12.9% to €259m (US$331m) in the nine months to September while shops in restricted areas (airside) posted an even bigger gain of +13.9% to €185m helped by growth in gastronomy and “an excellent performance” from fashion and accessories. Sales per pax were up by +10.7% to €16.1 including duty free sales per pax of €29.8 (+11.6%).


On a quarter-on-quarter basis, ADP’s Retail & Services division revenues have been stable at €220m, €219m and €223m with growth between Q2 and Q3 of +1.8%. The third quarter was expected to see a positive impact from the implementation of the S4 BuY Duty Free department store and luxury boutiques which opened in July.
