Pavo Duty Free to operate Capi franchise in Kiev

By Kevin Rozario |

Pavo Duty Free will operate a Capi electronics shop at Zhuliany Airport in Kiev, Ukraine under a franchise deal signed between the Ukrainian DF&TR operator and Netherlands-based Capi Global.

The 45sq m shop (image below) has a product selection specifically tailored to the buying behaviour of travellers through Kiev. The assortment consists of leading A-brands, niche brands and Capi’s own brand MiTone and will be closely monitored by Capi.

This is the first time that Capi Global (part of B&S International) is trying out its new franchise formula, but the electronics player says that its aim is to establish it at other airports.

Peter Wiggers (left), Managing Director of Royal Capi-Lux (of which Capi Global is a subsidiary) comments: “This agreement with Pavo is an important step for us. We believe that electronics contribute to a more inspiring and complete retail offer. Our franchise formula is designed to make electronics retailing a carefree experience in order to ensure duty free retailers can focus on the traditional categories. Pavo are experienced retailers themselves, therefore it makes perfect sense to enter into a franchise partnership with them.”

Pavo Duty Free is the largest duty free operator in Ukraine, servicing five international airports. Zhuliany airport, which handles nearly 2m passengers a year, has a broad duty free offering of luxury goods, such as jewellery and fine liquors as well as cosmetics, perfumes, food and beverages.

Igor Kunyansky (right), President of Pavo Duty Free, says: “Our current offering consists of high-quality European brands and global trademarks. The Capi Franchise will enable us to complete our retail offering at Zhuliany Airport.”

Capi Global currently has 38 dedicated shops at airports in Europe and South Africa.
