Passenger growth outstrips spending at Zurich in May
By Luke Barras-hill |
Commercial revenue at Flughafen Zürich AG (Zurich Airport) grew by 6.3% in May year-on-year to reach CHF 52.5m ($53.3m).
Airside showed the biggest improvement, notching growth of +8.2%, with landside sales up by 3.6%.
However, the results could not outpace growth in passenger traffic, with the Swiss International Airlines’ hub handling 2.7m during the month – a 8.4% increase year-on-year.
Year-to-date passenger numbers are up by 6.4% to total 11.8m.
In its full-year 2017 results announced in March, Dufry highlighted that its home airport is receiving an expanded digital footprint under the new Business Operating Model (BOM).
Dufry signed a 12-year contract extension with Zurich in 2016, which includes a full renovation of the commercial space. The extension covers its duty free departures and arrivals concessions.
The store is also one of the first locations to receive the travel retailer’s New Generation concept.
