Pernod Ricard releases four Midleton Very Rare single cask bottlings into GTR

Four different Midleton Very Rare single cask bottlings have been released into GTR.

Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail (GTR) has released a collection of Midleton Very Rare single cask bottlings exclusively into TR/DF, each differentiated by age statement and cask finish.

The Midleton distillery, located near Cork, dates back to the 19th century. Midleton Very Rare whiskeys are collectable limited editions with strong personal associations with the master distiller.

Available in select airports across Europe, each non-chill-filtered Irish whiskey expression is exclusive to an individual retailer.

Gebr. Heinemann is offering a 27-Year-Old First Fill Bourbon cask from Amsterdam Airport’s Exquisite Store priced at €900. It is said to offer toffee, roasted malt, delicate floral and herbal notes.

Midleton Very Rare Single Cask 25 Year Old Virgin American Oak is listed exclusively at Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Shannon at €800, also through Heinemann. The bottling imparts notes of perfumed oak, smoked wood, ripe banana and glazed almonds.

Dufry’s World Duty Free stores at Heathrow have 21 Year Old Midleton Very Rare Virgin American Oak release, available for £500. The whiskey has given tasting notes of honeycomb, hazelnut chocolate, salted caramel and nutmeg.

Finally, 24 Year Old Midleton Very Rare First Fill Bourbon can be purchased with Aer Rianta at Dublin Airport with an RRP of €735. The expression is said to bring notes of orange zest, coffee beans, butterscotch and white chocolate.

Each bottle and outer case have been personalised with individual bottle and cask numbers, along with the filling date. Inside each case, a booklet details the whiskey production and selection process, along with detailed tasting notes.

‘Booming’ Irish whiskey category in GTR

Midleton Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman selected each cask based on its quality and flavour attributes.

“We feel privileged to be working alongside the team at Midleton Distillery to bring such an exclusive and limited release to travelling consumers,” said Liya Zhang, VP Marketing, Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail.

“We have chosen to launch the new Midleton Very Rare Single Casks with retail partners at important travel hubs across Europe, in order to delight luxury spirit collectors travelling through these key destinations.

“We’re excited to continue working with Midleton Distillery, who are renowned for innovation and quality bottlings, and hope to launch more exclusive products for whiskey fans across the globe in the coming years.”

Casks have been paired with individual travel retailers.

Antonio Duva, General Manager for EMEA and Pacific at Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail added: “We’re proud of the global success of the booming Irish whiskey category and are delighted to bring a rare and luxury offering to whiskey collectors and enthusiasts.

“We are thrilled to be working with our key partners to bring to market very special and exclusive releases, and the Midleton Very Rare Single Cask release is truly a one-of-a-kind launch.”

Pernod Ricard recently posted stronger-than-expected first-half results for its 2023 financial year, revealing 36% sales growth in global travel retail.
