Retail is down at Zürich

Zürich Airport handled 1,878,814 passengers in March 2011, a rise of 3.5% versus March 2010, with year-to-date passenger growth also up by 4.5% and originating or departing numbers from Zürich rising by 4.6% to 1,202,442.
Total net sales to consumers reached Swf.38.6m ($43.3m) which was a -4.1% decline on the same period in the previous year). Turnover per departing passenger in March was Swf.41.10 ($46.15), some 7.3% lower than last year, while this also fell by 7.1% in the year to March.
MARCH NUMBERS FELL
Year-to-date figures to March also saw total turnover fall by 2.9% to Swf.109.6m ($123m) and sales turnover per departing passenger decrease by 7.1% to Swf.42.20 ($47.38).
Meanwhile, transfer passengers were up by 1.5% to 669,816 in March (YTD +1.8%), with the transfer rate which stood at 36.4% last March currently at 35.7% (YTD 35.7%).
Zürich Airport’s management added that the current low-cost passenger market share stands at 11.0% (YTD 10.4%), showing an increase in passenger figures of 9.0% (YTD +8.8%) versus the previous year.
