Ritter Sport and Avolta debut Zurich-exclusive Matcha Strawberry bar
By Naomi Chadderton |
Ritter Sport has teamed up with Avolta to unveil a global travel retail exclusive at Zurich Airport: a limited-edition 100g Matcha Strawberry tablet available throughout February.
The launch, running until 28 February 2026 (or while stocks last), underscores both partners’ focus on speed-to-market innovation and trend-led exclusives designed to resonate with younger travellers.
Created in limited quantities and available only in Avolta’s duty free stores at Zurich, the Matcha Strawberry flavour builds on Ritter Sport’s agile Buzz Team concept, which identifies emerging trends and moves quickly from idea to shelf. The flavour previously sold out within seven days when launched as a Buzz Limited Edition in Germany in September 2025 – a response that prompted the brand and retailer to translate the concept into a highly targeted airport activation.
The result is a bar that taps into Gen Z’s appetite for discovery and on-trend ingredients. Combining white chocolate infused with real matcha, yoghurt cream filling and freeze-dried strawberry pieces, the tablet delivers a layered flavour profile without added flavourings. With matcha now firmly established across beverages and premium snacking, the bar plays into a broader cultural moment, amplified by the playful strapline: ‘I love you berry matcha’.
Philippe Moryl, Global Head of Category for Confectionery & Food at Avolta, said: “This activation shows how Avolta uses innovation and limited editions to drive penetration, conversion and category growth in travel retail. Working with brands like Ritter Sport allows us to introduce on-trend flavours that refresh the offer and attract new customers, particularly in this case among younger, digitally engaged travellers. Thanks to our long-term partnership with Ritter Sport, Zurich Airport passengers now have access to one of the season’s most in-demand flavours, available for a limited time.”
Jan Pasold, Managing Director Travel Retail at Ritter Sport, added: “Our collaboration with Avolta shows what is possible when two partners move decisively and in close collaboration from inspiration to activation. This is true partnership.
“Matcha Strawberry is a bold, contemporary flavour that reflects our ambition to lead with creativity and relevance in travel retail. Producing a global exclusive in such limited quantities makes this edition truly special, and we are delighted to offer travellers a fresh, modern Ritter Sport taste experience they can only find at Zurich Airport. We look forward to continuing this journey of fast, focused innovation together.”
The activation is supported by social media promotion from Avolta and Zurich Airport, alongside digital screens across airside and landside locations, ensuring high visibility during one of the busiest travel months of the year.
For both partners, the collaboration highlights how tightly curated, trend-driven exclusives – when combined with strong retail theatre and digital amplification – can inject fresh energy into the confectionery category and drive incremental engagement in a fast-paced airport environment.
