Service robot boosts brand visibility in Viking Glory’s tax free shop
By Benedict Evans |

Put into operation during the week of September 15, the service robot does not replace the shop staff but instead provides a brand-new dimension in customer service and product marketing.
A service robot, sporting Viking Line’s classic red colour has been put into operation in Viking Glory’s tax free shop, providing suppliers with a new channel for branding and marketing, and aiding consumers in finding the product categories they are looking for.
“We believe that, with the help of our service robot, we can make our customers’ shopping experience even more engaging while further enhancing what is already our good customer satisfaction. The new robot offers an interesting additional channel for spotlighting brands and products. At the same time, the service robot gives our shop new energy,” said Carl Mörn, head of Viking Line’s retail operation.
In recent years, similar solutions have been placed in service in shops and restaurants on shore, but the robot is the first of its kind on board vessels sailing the Baltic Sea.
The project was carried out by the Stockholm-based company Robo Solutions, whose WeBot service concept includes not just robots but also consumer customisation, deployment and 24/7 support.
“This project in partnership with Viking Line has been especially enjoyable and inspiring for us. We offer not just individual units but also comprehensive solutions – and have customized this solution specifically for Viking Line’s needs. We were among the first to introduce AI-powered robots for guidance, sales campaigns and deliveries from the Asian market to Europe and have helped to change European retail shopping,” noted Songül Can, CEO of WeBot.
