Stockholm set new daily pax record of 100,000 last month

May 24 last month set a new daily passenger volume record of more than 100,000 passengers at Stockholm Arlanda Airport for the very first time.
Airport management pointed to several reasons for the high traffic, including the normally big Ascension holiday demand at Stockholm Arlanda, but also the UEFA Europa League football final, which also attracted strong traffic levels for fans via the airport to their ultimate venue – the Friends Arena in Solna outside Stockholm.
AIRPORT MANAGEMENT IS VERY PROUD
Kjell-Åke Westin, Airport Director commented: “It is really great to have reached the mark of 100,000 passengers flying to or from Stockholm Arlanda in a single day. It was an intense day, and planning took place over a long period. I take great pride in saying things went fantastically well.”
Airport management says that it made room for the extra numbers of aircraft by parking them on Runway 2 (08/26), which was closed for take-offs and landings for the day. It says a total of around 30 aircraft were parked on the runway for this extraordinarily heavy day of traffic.
Management adds that the last one-day passenger record was set in April of this year, when 92,200 passengers flew to or from Stockholm Arlanda Airport in a single day.
CROSSING BORDERS EXHIBITION
Meanwhile, Swedavia and Stockholm Airport are introducing a new exhibition called Crossing Borders – Smart Design, which is an event aimed at showcasing products by Swedish designers in the fields of digital communication, digital manufacturing and sustainable design.
This begins on Wednesday (28 June) of this week when passengers arriving at Stockholm Arlanda Airport will be able to tour the exhibits at Terminal 5 until 30 September.
This is part of a programme by Nationalmuseum and Swedavia to showcase art and design at Swedish airports. In 2014 an exhibition featuring photographic portraits of famous Swedes appeared at Arlanda and later went on tour to other Swedavia airports in Sweden.
