Swedish airport traffic declines by 14%

Swedish Airport Authority LFV has reported total passenger traffic down by 14% to 6.2m for the first quarter of 2009 with the global economic downturn impacting on both passenger numbers and income, according to LFV

Director General Lars Rekke.

LFV's turnover for the first quarter amounted to SK.1,508m ($199.8m) which is SK.59m ($7.8m) less than for the same period last year. Income from traffic stood at SK.998m ($132m) whilst income from commercial and other sources fell from SK.551m to SK.510m (from $73m to $68m) in the first quarter compared to last year.

LFV's investments over the period totalled SK.236m ($31m) including Stockholm-Arlanda Airport's new Terminal 5 with its much expanded commercial area and increased security control capacity. A new international arrivals hall at G?teborg Landvetter Airport is also now operational.

On March 1 2009 LFV reduced its airport charges providing airlines with a temporary discount of approximately SK.40m ($5.3m) during 2009.
