The retailer has opened one landside and one airside store at Tenerife South Airport.

WH Smith has expanded its Spanish business with the opening of two stores in Tenerife South Airport, which handled around 11.2 million passengers in 2017.

The retailer operates one landside and an airside store, offering passengers a range of products while on the move. These include Spanish and international newspapers, magazines and books, confectionery, drinks, grab&go sandwiches and travel essentials.

These openings accelerate WH Smith’s expansion into the Spanish market following the opening of two stores in Alicante Airport in April 2016.

Both stores in Tenerife provide a premium, design-focused contemporary look and feel, in keeping with AENA’s design aspirations for the retail stores in the airport.

The landside store is a new unit and enhances the retail proposition in the check-in area for passengers who have just arrived at the airport.

SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE

WH Smith’s Head of Business Development Andy Thomas said: “Securing the contract for the stores in Tenerife is another milestone in the development of our business in Spain following the successful opening of our first two stores in Alicante Airport.

“We have worked hard to develop our business and build an infrastructure in Spain to allow us to look at further growth opportunities in AENA’s network of airports.

“The team has really delivered a high standard of design for these stores and provided a real step-change to the traditional ‘news and books’ operation in Tenerife Airport. Feedback from our landlord and customers has been very positive.”
