Zürich Airport airside commercial turnover climbs 13.5%

Flughafen Zürich AG concludes its first half year 2012 with an increase of 9.1% net profit to 80.2 million Swiss Francs, YOY.

 

With 457.0 million Swiss Francs, revenues were 5.8% higher than in the first half year of 2011. Revenue in the non-aviation segment rose by 9.5% to 173.3 million Swiss Francs.

 

The turnover increased from 431.9 million Swiss Francs to 457.0 million Swiss Francs (plus 5.8%), whilst revenue in the aviation segment increased by 3.7% to 283.7 million Swiss Francs.

 

According to the Swiss Airport, newly opened shops and restaurants led to an increase of 6.8% in non-aviation revenue, to 246.3 million Swiss Francs.

NEW AIRSIDE RETAIL OFFERINGS

While turnover on the airside increased by an impressive 13.5%, turnover on the landside saw a slight decrease of 0.4 %. “Amongst others, this can be explained by various reconstruction during this period,” said the operator.

 

Revenue per outbound passenger also rose 3.5%, from CHF 40.3 to CHF 41.7. Zürich Airport said that this is mainly attributable to the new airside retail offerings and the arrival duty-free shop. All renovation work for the major Zürich 2010’ project was completed in the first half of 2012

 

EBITDA increased by 16.6 million Swiss Francs or 7.4% from 225.6 million Swiss Francs to 242.2 million Swiss Francs compared to the same period last year.

 

From January to June 2012, a total of 11.8 million passengers departed, arrived or changed planes at Zurich Airport (plus 3.1%). The number of local passengers increased by 2.5% and the number of transfer passengers by 4.4% compared to last years’ period.

NET PROFIT FORECAST TO INCREASE BY 5-10%

Flughafen Zürich AG expects the passenger volume to increase by approximately 2.5 % for the whole year of 2012. Considering this forecast, Flughafen Zürich AG accordingly expects net profit including noise components to grow by 5 to 10%.

 

“Zürich Airport was used by a total of 11,813,710 passengers in the first half of 2012, an increase of 3.1%,” says the airport.

 

“This growth puts Zürich Airport clearly above the European average of +1.4% as reported by Airports Council International (ACI).”
