Zurich year-to-date retail sales increase up +5.6% to $441m

Zurich Airport has reported landside and airside commercial sales up +5.3% to CHF51.3m ($52.5m) in September and up +5.6% to CHF431.1m ($441.4m) in the year-to-date calendar nine months. Passenger airside spends also rose by average +7.3% and +9.3% levels respectively and by +2.3% and +0.8% on the landside.
The average turnover recorded per departing passenger in September was unchanged at CHF37.40 ($38.29) compared to last year, while the YTD turnover per departing passenger to September fell by -1.4% to CHF38.50 ($39.42).
SEPTEMBER PASSENGERS UP +5.5% TO 2.7m
This expenditure was supported by a +5.5% increase in overall passengers to 2,747,462 in September and a +7.2% rise in numbers for the first nine months to September to 22,376,886 passengers.

In terms of the September breakdown, local origin passenger numbers rose by +6.8% to 1,987,765, while the transfer rate stood at 27.5% in the month, corresponding to a fall of -1.9 percentage points versus the previous year.
The results also follow news that Zurich Airport was voted Europe’s leading airport (for the 14th consecutive time) in the World Travel Awards ‘for its customer friendliness and fulfilment of general quality standards’.
Zurich won the award ahead of competition from Barcelona, Hamburg, London/Heathrow, Lisbon, Munich, Paris/Charles de Gaulle, Pristina/Kosovo and Schiphol.
