AAI seeks new duty free retailers at 12 airports

By Doug Newhouse |

Airports Authority of India (AAI) is advertising several duty free opportunities at a large number of airports in what it describes as ‘a golden opportunity’ for retailers to become involved with duty free shops ‘at key Indian airports’.

AAI says it is looking for retailers to tender for its following airport locations, which include: Coimbatore; Calicut; Mangalore; Trichy; Trivandrum; Kolkata; Ahmedabad; Goa; Pune; Jaipur; Lucknow; and Amritsar.

In a statement, AAI said: “The Authority has adopted a single stage selection process in evaluating the proposals, comprising technical and financial proposals to be submitted through the online E-tendering website of the Authority. After receipt of Proposals, a technical evaluation will be carried out. Based on this technical evaluation, a short-list of qualified bidders shall be prepared.

“Thereafter, the evaluation of financial proposals submitted by the qualified bidders, along with the technical proposal will be carried out. Financial proposals will finally be ranked and the highest bidder shall be selected for award of concession for design, build, finance, operate and maintain duty free outlets at international airports.”

Chennai Airport is currently India’s third busiest airport for international passenger traffic after Delhi and Mumbai. The deadline for collecting duty free tender documents is also today.
